WWDC 2023: Apple Unveils macOS Sonoma

Apple has unveiled macOS Sonoma, the next major version of its desktop operating system. macOS Sonoma is based on the same foundation as macOS Ventura, but it includes a number of new features and improvements.

Some of the key features of macOS Sonoma include:

  • Stage Manager: Stage Manager is a new feature that allows users to focus on one task at a time. When Stage Manager is enabled, all of the user's open apps are arranged on the left side of the screen, and the current app is displayed in the centre. This makes it easy for users to switch between apps and to keep track of what they are working on.
  • Continuity Camera: Continuity Camera is a new feature that allows users to use their iPhone as a webcam for their Mac. This can be useful for video calls, presentations, and other tasks.
  • Mail: Mail has been redesigned in macOS Sonoma with a new look and feel. The new Mail app also includes a number of new features, such as the ability to undo send, schedule emails, and search for attachments.
  • Safari: Safari has also been updated in macOS Sonoma with a number of new features, such as the ability to share tabs with other devices, translate websites, and block ads.

macOS Sonoma is available now as a developer beta. A public beta will be available in July, and the final release is expected in the fall.

Here are some of the other new features and improvements in macOS Sonoma:

  • New Metal 3 API: Metal 3 is a new version of Apple's graphics API that provides better performance and features for games and other graphics-intensive applications.
  • New Live Text and Visual Look Up features: Live Text and Visual Look Up are now available in more apps, including Messages, Safari, and Mail.
  • New security features: macOS Sonoma includes a number of new security features, such as a new Lockdown Mode that protects users from targeted cyberattacks.
